NOV-HAVE NATURAL HAIR GOODIES: MOPTOP

November 3rd, 2014 / Stephane

November is our official Natural Hair Month on Milk & Honey. Throughout the month we will be featuring some of our favourite natural hair products and giving you advice from the professionals.

First up on the list is MopTop! Having discovered them online I was keen to try out their range that is designed for frizzy hair types, including natural hair. What was most enticing was the fact all their products are free of Sulfates, Parabens, Wheat, Soy, Phthalates, Alcohol and insoluble Silicones. How amazing is that!

Founded in 2005 by Kelly Foreman, the company want their users to discover confidence and natural beauty one frizzy head at a time. Dedicated to producing the finest natural textured hair care products.

We tried out four products from their range including the Clarifying Rescue Treatment, Citrus Bamboo Leave In Conditioner and both the Bamboo Shampoo and Daily Conditioner.

1.Bamboo Shampoo and Daily Conditioner

Gentle Shampoo 8oz $21.95 | Daily Conditioner 8oz from $23.95

First up on the list we cleansed the hair with a Bamboo Shampoo and Daily Conditioner. Now who doesn’t love a sweet smelling shampoo – this product has a lovely lavender mint scent. Now I used this on my hair for one wash, then moved onto the conditioner to complete my cleansing process. Typically I am a fan of co-washing (where you wash your hair with your conditioner), however for the purposes of the review I use the two back to back. It worked a treat regardless.

I know some people are against using shampoos on natural hair, however this Bamboo Shampoo is also a gentle shampoo and doesn’t contain sulfates and other harsh detergents that strip your hair of its natural oils.

Next up I applied the Bamboo Conditioner. This has lovely scent and is infused with aloe. I applied this to my hair for two more washes and washed it out after about 7 mins of keeping it on my hair. I really loved how this left my hair feeling. At times conditioners can leave your hair feeling weighed down, however this did the exact opposite, and boy does it smell delicious.

2. MopTop Clarifying Rescue Treatment

Just $9.99 available at Target

Now next up is the MopTop Clarifying Rescue Treatment. This is said to remove all the icky and hard stuff in the hair such silicone, waxes, chlorine if you are a big swimmer and the everyday wear and tear from the outdoors. It’s also great if you’ve coloured your hair.

You apply this on your mildly wet hair and massage it from the roots to ends. Keep it on for 5 mins for the best results and you will see it leaves your hair shiny and motorised. Please also bare in mind you only need to do this every 8 weeks. Also note that if you do use this product, you don’t need to use Shampoo.

3. Leave In Conditioner

$23.95 8oz from Moptop

Now lastly on our list is the leave in conditioner. This nourishes the scalp and feeds your hair whilst reducing frizz and locking in that all important moisture into those curls. This by far was my favourite – such a simple process after co washing or a rinse. Literally, just apply it to your soaking wet hair, scrunch and let dry or diffuse. It’s really as easy as that. It smells a bit like apple and green tea and I mean isn’t that just the perfect scent to leave your hair with?

So there you have it! Both affordable and great for the overall nurturing of your hair this is a must have in your hair collection.
