Solange Piaget Knowles, better known as Solange is a lady who had been gracing our screens and radios since all the way back in 2001. Whether in the background or in the limelight, she maintains her individuality. She may be the younger sister to megastar singer Beyonce and daughter of both Music Manager Matthew Knowles and Fashion Designer Tina Knowles, but Solange has never failed to stand on her own two feet and claim her own success. Here are Five Reasons Why We Love Solange!

Motherhood

Balancing a full time profession has enough of an impact when you want a social life. But since 2004, Solange has been a full time doting mum of the now 8 year old Daniel Julez Smith, Jr, while still on the rise in her own career.  Much of her blog is dedicated to him and her most recent studio album features a song she wrote for him. Having a child is no easy or simple job and all mothers (and fathers) raising their children deserve a salute; Solange is one of them!

‘Stylish Starlet’

Solange is a regular at high profile fashion events most notably the recent New York Fashion Week where she was praised for her fabulous look which seemed almost effortless. She has found international success in this field as during the month of February 2012 she was the guest writer for British Vogue’s ‘Today I’m Wearing…’ where she posted daily images of her outfits. And just to add to her portfolio, Solange has featured in the adverts of Feria by Lorea Paris and is currently the face of Rimmel London Make-Up, making her a model of high acclaim.

Creativity

Following in her own mother’s and grandmother’s footsteps, Solange has turned her hand to the path of clothing design. She co-launched the junior collection Dereon. For those who don’t know, House of Dereon is the fashion line created by Beyonce and her mother and Dereon is their sister line. Yet of course, that is not all, Solange is the creator of Baby Jamz, a line of toys, CDs and more for young children. It brings a modern hip hop style to some of the classic nursery rhymes.

Multi Talented

Solange is a singer, a dancer, an actress, a model, a DJ, a hit song-writer, an entrepreneur, and a designer; all in her own right. She has released two highly acclaimed solo studio albums with hit singles on both; she has featured and starred in a number of films and TV Shows. She may be constantly compared to her older sister, but Solange has no doubt proved that she never worked in the shadow. Her incredible list of talents highlight the strength she has used to create her success without relying on the name of anybody in her family. And that’s not easy!

Unique

In the summer of 2009, Solange was pictured with her hair all shaved off! Sporting a completely new look she boldly opted to grow her natural hair which she now very often is praised for. Showing off her mini afro, Solange did what most women want to, but never will… She did the big chop! As a fellow natural hair grower myself, I know it’s not easy to cut your hair so short and the growing process is no easier. The amount of research needed to know and understand the kind of care needed to grow your natural hair takes true determination. Good for you Solange!
