5 Signs you May Need a Dermatologist

August 16th, 2018 / Stephane

You might have been thinking about visiting a private dermatologist in the UK for a while now, but not really sure if it’s something that’s necessary.  In reality, you should be looking to see a dermatologist on an annual basis for a full skin check.  If you visit a dermatologist yearly, it means they will be able to keep on top of any changes they see such as moles, any new marks on the skin etc. It may be that you need to have a visit if you have some symptoms you are unsure of.  You should see a dermatologist if you have any of the following:

A Rash that isn’t Clearing up

If you have a rash that doesn’t seem to be going away – it could be the result of an allergic reaction.  In which case, you will need to seek advice of a dermatologis to find out.  It also could be a skin condition forming such as eczema. In any case, you should most definitely seek the advice of an expert to see if they can diagnose it.

If you have Discoloured Fingernails or Toenails

If your fingernails or toenails look to be discoloured or are on the brittle side – this could mean that you have a fungal infection.  If this is the case, it could be that you need to be prescribed antibiotics for it to be cleared up.  To be safe, again it’s a good idea to visit an expert to have a look.

Acne

For the most part, acnecan be something that’s just a bit of an annoyance, however in some instances it can become much more severe, in which case it will require for you to visit a specialist.  As acne is the most common in young people, Cedars Dermatology(a private dermatologist in the UK) say that they should “seek advice and treatment as prompt therapy can reduce the scarring”. Dermatologists are the people you would need to speak to to be able to treat your acne and clear your skin.

A Blemish that Looks Different

If you have a mole or a freckle, and you have noticed that it looks a bit different than before, then you definitely should go to see a dermatologist.  It could be anything from the change of shape, to a change in colour.  The worse-case scenario is that it could be skin cancer and getting this diagnosed early could literally be a life saver.

A Skin Condition that isn’t Healing

If you have something as simple as a bump, that doesn’t seem to be healing – it could be a sign of something else.  The same goes for simple cuts and scrapes that have lasted a long time.  Make sure you don’t take a chance and visit a private dermatologist.

As mentioned, it’s good practice to visit a dermatologist on a regular basis, but if you spot any of the above – or have any other concerns about your skin, then it’s always better to be safe than sort and seek advice from the relevant experts.
