Cali Diaries: Universal Studios Hollywood

October 5th, 2014 / Stephane

If like me you believe you are absolutely never too old for a theme park, you need to get yourself down to Universal Studios, Hollywood I’m a firm believer in this theory and was back to being a kid again as I arrived in sunny California for a day of adventure at one of the worlds largest theme parks. With sunny weather 365 days a week, you’re guaranteed to have the time of your lives here, and I certainly did.

With an array of activities for all the family to share, the day was going to be full of action-packed entertainment and we couldn’t wait! Rides, stimulators, shows, a real working movie studio, and not forgetting the brightly animated CityWalk full of your favourite restaurants, shops and even a cinema!

Upon arrival we got our Front of The Line Passes and were all set to go. Now unlike other theme parks, the Front of The Line Pass does exactly what it says it will. It allows you to que hop and cuts down your waiting time dramatically. In fact we didn’t have to wait to get on any ride, in our experience, which made the day so much more fulfilling. It is definitely a great investment and allows you to make the most out of the day.

So first up on the list for us was the notoriously fabulous Despicable Me Minion Mayhem stimulator ride. We did indeed become minions for the day, and it certainly set the pace for us.

Up next it was time to come face to face with King Kong 360 3-D. It is the world’s largest 3-D experience and literally a ride you won’t forget.

We then headed off to lunch where there are an array of restaurants and street food stalls for everyone’s preference. We ended up getting some Hot Dogs and were set to watch our first Universal Show, Waterworld!

It was not what we expected but exceeded our expectations to say the least. Be warned you can get wet watching this show, but the seating is pretty clear on the best places to sit to avoid getting wet! It’s all part of the fun and action. I’m talking jumping jet-skiers, perilous plunges, massive fire explosions and wait for it, a plane crash! Live before your eyes!

One of the best parts of the Universal Studios Hollywood experience is seeing the characters out and about from your favourite films and the mini themed sets in between. For me it was seeing a real life Transformer before embarking on the Transformers™: The Ride-3D. Goodness, they are all in character and it really gets you in the mood of things.

The vital rides at Universal Studios are incredible, and we most enjoyed being a part of the animated world of The Simpsons™.

Next up, it was time to get those much anticipated knots in the belly! Revenge of the Mummy℠ – The Ride! Jaw dropping is not even close! An indoor roller-coster that literally will have you going round in circles thinking what an earth was I thinking! By far one of my favourites during the day!

The last ride we went on was going to have to end in a splash! Be warned no one is exempt with treacherous drop straight down an 84-foot death-defying raft plunge of water! What a way to end the experience of the theme park! Drenched and on a high!

Universal Studios Hollywood

We finished with the day off by heading over to the Universal Studio Tour. As it gave us a glimpse in to the Behind The Scenes of Hollywoods finest blockbusters – it was the perfect way to end the day. I certainly won’t spoil all the surprises for you by telling you what to expect, but rest assured you will see how your favourite movies are created, with everything from street sets to flooding sets! It truly is a once in a lifetime experience. In fact, it may change your very perception of television and just how amazing the camera is at telling a story!
