As you escape the January winter chills, you are welcomed (by the most friendly staff) into this food haven upon your arrival by a warm blanket of serenity. Alongside the relaxed atmosphere, your nose’s attention is caught by the enticing aroma proceeding from the food station and juice bar.
Unlike most congested and over furnished buffet’s, Tibits gentle touch of elegance is an open plan, minimal yet cozy interior which makes you feel right at home.
The seasonal winter menu is an ensemble of flavors consisting of:
SIDES:
Dried bean salad
Wakame salad
Fruity red cabbage
Aubergine amaranth
Pulled seitan sandwiches
Caesar salad
Vegetable Tartar
MAINS:
Tofu au vin and mash
Nutty winter greens
Middle eastern aubergine stew served with Lebanese wild rice
Orange risotto with Rosemary and caramelised walnuts
Seitan strips Zurich style with Roesti
DESERT:
Wildberry bake
Sticky toffee
Avocado – chocolate tarte
Vegan mango cake
I chose Wakame salad, Dried bean salad, Aubergine amaranth, Orange risotto, Seitan strips Zurich style with roesti. Having been to Japan and tasted the traditional Wakame salad it was truly reminiscent of what I had ate previously.
The aubergine amaranth (it literally melted in my mouth) is garnished with parsley to lift the earthy notes in the dish. The orange risotto had a gentle yet distinct orange flavour and such a creamy texture. The dried beans were earthy and sweet – a truly flavorsome bite.
The Zurich style Seitan strips had the same texture & consistency as pork but 100% vegan friendly. A great compliment to this was the roesti – a formidable alternative to a lasagne.
For desert I had the Wildberry bake and the Sticky toffee. Wildberry Cake – made of berries enveloped in light fluffy dough. Sounds simple – I know. But as with my theory with most fast food chains )and Pringles) who put a special chemical in their products that make you want more – I was salivating after annihilating this simple but rich desert.
The sticky toffee complimented the wildberry cake afterwards (though not intentionally, not many people would buy two deserts) and was surprisingly not too sweet. It was “sweet enough” – with my sweet tooth days not lasting past m childhood it was just enough sweetness to have me feeling very satisfied.
Though very simple, these dishes pack a mighty punch. I challenge all meat lovers (in hopes to convert some to “vegetarialism”) to visit Tibits. Your tastebuds will be blown into a new dimension – all without the power of meat! To all lovers of food in general – come & be inspired by this high grade of culinary artistry as it is next to none, bearing the sole purpose of introducing euphoric savour beyond your wildest imagination.
