FEATURE: Top 5 Spring Hair-Do’s

March 10th, 2012 / Stephane

Spring/Summer 2012 is such an exciting season not only fashion wise but in makeup and hair. Minimalistic with a natural elegant simple twist, perfect for spring.  A beautiful variety of floral patterns and the pastel palette being used to it’s full potential; there is something available for everyone. The makeup and hair trends are all so sophisticated, chic and effortless and I’m going to share my five top hair trends that I will be rocking this season. The key looks are: the ponytail, the urban wave/festival look, the super-glam blowout, the preppy look and finally the accessorized updo.

THE PONYTAIL

The ponytail has never really disappeared in my eyes, it’s the easiest to rock especially when one is having a bad hair day. The ponytail is a key spring hair trend; think equestrian, preppy and sleek. The classic hairstyle has been updated and the ways we can wear the ponytail are so simple, versatile and effective. The super sleek ponytail was noted at Donna Karen, a more relaxed style tied with a piece of leather at Reed Krakoff and finally a ponytail pulled halfway through at Missoni. Three fab ponytail styles: easy peasy.

THE URBAN WAVE/ FESTIVAL LOOK

The effortlessly cool tousled beach babe look. This look is simple, chic and spot on trend. Easy to recreate and repeat again and again. Follow these steps: quick blast with the blow dryer, a little tweak with the hot tongs, mess it up: catwalk effortless coolness, good to go! Calvin Klein and Theysken’s Theory are great catwalk examples as well as Gisele for Givenchy. If you are attending a festival this season then start practicing this look now and try to achieve it with non-heating tongs because we all know that heated tongs aren’t part of the festival status…are they?

THE SUPER GLAMOUROUS BLOWOUT

This look is all about gorgeous, super glam and voluminous hair. Versace, Guido Palau, and D&G created bouncy, elegant beautiful blowouts. This style is easy replicated: apply lots of styling moose, set hair in pin curls, leave to set and then release and tousle. Olivia Wilde has opted for the super-glam blowout but also teamed it with a side parting preppy look, two spring trends in one!

THE PREPPY LOOK

Preppy side-partings were everywhere on the spring/summer 2012 catwalks. Designers were mixing up preppy with the glam and voluminous style as well as with the classic ponytail. Side-parting with a ponytail…now that’s what I’m talking about! With this look it is essential to make sure you have plenty of products to keep the look sleek and smooth. This look is very versatile so have some fun with this one. This look was spotted at Dries Van Noten, Akris, Costume National, Celine and Peter Som so it is a definite keeper for spring 2012.

THE ACCESSORISED UP DO

The accessorised ‘updo’ is such an individual and creative look. The simple touches were the most memorable and effective on the catwalk. Hair pins, pearls, feathers, and cage barrettes were just a few different embellishments used by designers for the spring 2012 trend. Jason Wu made a striking statement with feathers and the pearl-adorned knots stole the show at Chanel. Why not add some accessories to spruce up your retro hairstyle, like Katy Perry. Check out local haberdashery stores for something ‘special’ to create you very unique look.

I hope you have enjoyed my review and thoughts on spring 2012 hair trends, there are so many styles to choose from so the five I have spoken about are my current fav’s and I will rocking these trends this spring.

P.S Remember fashion, makeup and different hairstyles are all about experimenting and having some fun…so go on let loose!
