When I was first asked to write this article I was overjoyed. A chance to honour a long-term hero and inspiration of mine -what a great opportunity right? But whittling it down to just 5 reasons is trickier than you think! As I said, Christine Caine is someone whose values, resolve and relentlessness I aspire to and respect and a firm favourite of Milk and Honey too as founder of the A21 Campaign! But why do I especially love her? Let’s find out…
1. She tackles the huge giant of human trafficking in the 21st century head on with courage, and resilience determined to abolish the abhorrent abuse of modern slavery. But more than just a passion she engages this in a way that is relevant and heartfelt without being preachy or condescending.
2. Her message is love. She fills her blog and website with positivity and light. She offers advice and wisdom without seeming self-righteous or detached. She is humble and has a way of offering her life that clearly displays the grace of God and invites you in- she is beautiful in this respect as well as others.
3. She believes. I mean she really has faith. Faith in justice being served, faith in the God she fearlessly pursues and in the people she saves from slavery. I’m learning a lot about faith and Christine Caine is a role model whose example is one we should extol.
4. She seeks to empower and unite not divide. Her leadership and her ministry seeks to build women up in the face of a world where many women face fierce scrutiny and pressure.
5. She doesn’t do it alone. She recognises the need for her family- her husband and children, the fellowship of the Hillsong leadership and ultimately God. She is not self-seeking and does not seem to delight in the attention or fame she attracts. Rather she relishes an opportunity to share her faith and extraordinary passion.
So to conclude Christine Caine is a remarkable person, a devoted mother and wife, a committed woman of faith and an inspiration in the drive to end slavery once and for all in any guise. But above all I love Christine Caine because she is a positive role model in the face of such negativity. She triumphs in a world of neverending ideals and lists of perfection, of size zero models and sex as currency and that is something well worth celebrating.
