When I was a little girl my Daddy with his bellowing bass voice, would say to us: “Our last name is Love, and we have to be love to everyone.” I would say in my mind “yeah, yeah, Daddy-LOVE- I got it!” The truth is I didn’t get it, and for the majority of my life I’ve gotten it wrong. ALL WRONG!!! I mean-have you ever thought about what LOVE truly is? Or have you, like I have, settled to simply accept the definition fairy tales, successful or failed relationships, friends,or pop culture has given us?
As a follower of Christ the greatest love I know is the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for my sins. It is the lens through which I strive daily to view myself and others. Mankind once lived in perfect standing with God in the Garden of Eden, but because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered the world. This sin created a barrier that kept man from experiencing the deep intimacy we once had with God. However God made a plan to re-connect us to Him again by sending His son Jesus, to die on the cross and be resurrected from the dead for our sin, which separated us from Him.
If you are a parent or have cared for an infant, you see all they do is eat, cry, poop and demand your full attention, leaving you sleep deprived and with much less money in your pocket. Why do we love babies then? Because we understand no amount of money, time spent or sacrifice made is worth more than seeing a child become what they were meant to be.This is how God loves us. He loves us because we are HIS-and NOTHING was more important to Him than to show us that love by dying on the cross and being raised from the dead, so you and I would know our worth and identity as children of the King.
1John 4:9-11
9. God has shown us his love by sending his only Son into the world so that we could have life through him.
10. This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins.
11. Dear friends, if this is the way God loved us, we must also love each other.
This- my friends- is the reality of Jesus: the difference between religion that drives people away from God, and romance which draws us closer to God. Humility comes from knowing your worth in Christ causing you love your self, and become an extension of love to those who are helpless to love others-even themselves. The command my earthly and heavenly Father is one in the same and it is a daily choice to accept that love. Your destiny is hidden in The Father’s Heart. What will you choose?
