All the way from Sydney, Australia hails a woman with a heart for worship, a prolific song-writer with a passion for Jesus and to see His love impact this generation.
On 18th March 2013, Darlene Zschech released her latest album ‘Revealing Jesus’ and we caught up with her. Here’s what she had to say…
Your new album, Revealing Jesus was produced by Israel Houghton, what is it like working with Israel creatively?
Inspiring. Laughs. He is a creative genius, he seriously is. He is one of the most creative people I’ve ever met so the combination is amazing and I was just inspired.
What’s your favourite song on the Revealing Jesus album and why?
I’m not sure, have different ones for different reasons. I love My Jesus I love Thee, I love the hymn. I just love the timelessness of it, it’s beautiful. And I love In Jesus’ Name and I love Victor’s Crown, laughs, I love lots of them.
You are a mother, wife, pastor and recording artist, how do you balance all these titles?
I don’t know, there’s just a grace on my life for this. I’ve had those titles for a long, long time now; this is normal, you know.
Do you think it takes time?
Oh my gosh, yes! But it’s a joy, my family is my priority. It’s good, we have fun. I think it’s all about your attitude and you have to put boundaries in as well, make sure you give yourself space and a sabbath, the sabbath is really important.
Having written some of the greatest worship songs in our generation, do you feel there is a pressure and expectancy on you to write more hit anthems, even with Revealing Jesus?
No, laughs, I’m just not that clever. I’m really not and if you’re doing things for the praises of man or that kind of expectation it’s just too much pressure. You’ve just gotta love God and love people and do your best and then just see what God does with that. Also, you gotta work hard on your craft, of course, we all do that. You have to be applying yourself, doing your best, you’re asking for input, being diligent with the process so you can walk away knowing in your heart of hearts you’ve done your best and that’s the main thing.
What do you want to be remembered for?
I love Jesus with all my heart. Love the local church and I love my family and the poorest of the poor. I wanna champion His house, champion my family, these things are so watered down in this generation and yet they’re so important. I just wanna champion all those things.
